Astronomy's Origin

Now that I live in Los Angeles, I regularly visit Griffith Park Observatory with its beautiful outdoor obelisque honoring six prominent astronomers including Galileo Galilei, Johannes Kepler and Sir Isaac Newton.

The truth is these men were first and foremost astrologers.  During the 1600's and the rise of rationalism
and Descartes, astronomy split from astrology in an attempt to disengage from the divinatory and spiritual aspects of their original forebearers.   In some ways, this was healthy and just part of an individuation process. Modern astronomers have oftentimes sought to discredit astrology, its source, in the way that a rebellious teenager tries to run away from home.

Yet despite claims of superiority, astronomy is simply an extension of astrology, just as theology, psychology,  chemistry, medicine and mathematics are.

Astrology, a form of cosmic algebra, speaks to the entirety of life whereas all of these disciplines are separatist and limited in their ability to explain the totality of existence.

And as sciences, they are focused on the parts, rather than the whole.

This has actually been the bane of human existence in that we also see ourselves as small and isolated particles in a cold and indifferent universe.

Modern Astronomy has only been in existence for 500 years, neglecting thousands of years of human history and perception.  And it's focus on linear time and the belief in forward motion as progress are somewhat limited and false because any observer of history, both personal and global, will notice repeating cycles and patterns.

Man's limited self relates to science, his whole self does not. But even science is changing its mind and discovering a essential organizing force behind all of creation.  They are arcing back toward a belief in a holographic or divinely inspired world.  In retrospect, we may see the last 500 years of science and the theologies of rationalism and empiricism as a mad moment in human history where we thought we could actually live separate from God.

To this point, evolutionary astrology posits that we have two conflicting desires, one is to separate from God and the other is the desire to return to Source.  Our various past lives and human history in general have shown the painful ways we have delayed or deterred ourselves from our return.

I believe that science and rationalism, modern forms of individuation,  have been the current forces that have separated us from God but greater exploration such as string theory and  big bang are actually bringing us back.   In this sense, science was simply a detour.

But since the split was never real, just a trick of the mind, like the Prodigal Son returning home, astronomy and astrology can reconcile.

I predict that astrology and astronomy will reunite in the near future.  The sextile of Uranus in Pisces and Neptune in Aquarius throughout the mid 2000's have already set this in motion.

Whereas astronomy sees the cosmos outside of ourselves, astrology shows it as within and without.

Astrology along with the assistance of astronomy, has the ability to reunite us back to Source where we can enjoy and be at one with the stars.
